With the Bertram ring basket and its cultivation and care, we would like to introduce you to a plant that is both a flower and a medicinal herb.

Bertram ring basket

The ring basket from the mountains of North Africa - often also known as Morocco chamomile - thrives consistently well in our latitudes. Which is why the upholstery perennial, which blooms from May to July, sometimes even until the beginning of September, is being offered more and more in gardening stores.

Install Bertram ring basket

The perennial ring basket, referred to by experts as Bertram, should always be planted in a sunny, extremely dry location, but never in clay soils. Ideally, you should also choose a location on a slight slope so that no waterlogging can form around the plant. If such a location should not be available in your garden, then you have to make even and therefore more humid ground areas more permeable. Simply add a little lime gravel to the earth.

Ring baskets are also ideal for planting pots and window boxes. In this case, however, you should only water the ring basket minimally every 1 to 2 weeks. And the ring basket (about 10 to 15 centimeters high) is also very suitable for planting rock gardens and for planting walls.

As soon as the white flowering ring basket has settled in a bit at its new location, it usually multiplies by itself in the second year.

Care tips for the Bertram ring basket

The ring basket, which is visually very similar to the daisies or daisies, is one of the absolutely easy-care upholstered perennials. It is interesting to look at the still closed calyx from spring, especially since the petals on the underside with the dark pink-red color form a great contrast to the white border.

By the way: the calyxes close permanently in the evening and in rainy weather, which in turn is a great natural spectacle!

In spring and autumn you can provide the ring basket with a little full fertilizer if necessary, but this is usually hardly necessary.

»Protection in winter / protection in heavy rain:

In the winter months, when the ring basket slowly loses its complete green, you should cover it a little with pine twigs, especially in the first two years of planting, to protect it from severe frosts. In this way, it quickly sprouts with fresh green in early spring.

In the case of long periods of rain, it is best to always cover the ring basket with a garden fleece if there is any waterlogging.

»Cut back:

After the ring basket has spread in all directions like a ground cover, you can cut it back from time to time. Then, if possible, only after the flowering phase.

»Pest infestation:

Ring cups are very rarely attacked by insects or fungal diseases. Usually only when the climate is extremely humid. In such exceptional cases, however, you must unfortunately treat it immediately with an appropriate fungicide or insecticide. In some cases, the early detection of pests also helps with the use of a biological defense.
