Make old from new: If paving stones are old and weathered, you do not have to replace them. Finally, paving stones can also be painted. We show you how it works.Paving stones in different colors
If they are relocated, they look great. 5 years later only weathered. However, it is quite normal for paving stones to lose their beautiful appearance over time. The various weather influences are to blame. Once they are weathered, they are simply not beautiful to look at and quickly give the property an unkempt character. Therefore, you should quickly remedy the situation and do something.
Now you don't have to replace the stones completely. This would not only involve a very high cost, but would also make no sense. Finally, you can paint concrete paving stones and give them a beautiful appearance again.
Color for paving stones
Many have certainly not heard of this possibility. Refreshing with color also only works with concrete blocks that are completely intact and have no cracks or breaks. This method is not possible with natural stones.
In order to freshen up the paving stones, special glazes for concrete blocks are available at the hardware store (see e.g. Do it New Paving) with which you can easily re-coat the stones in different colors. The color combines directly with the material and is permeable to water vapor. It is therefore integrated in the concrete. In addition, it is also lightfast and does not yellow over time.
Incidentally, the colored glazes are not only suitable for the optical embellishment of old paving stones. Sometimes you want to re-lay paving stones, but you cannot find concrete blocks in the desired color in retail stores. The selection of colored stones is very limited and the colored stones are also very expensive. In this case it can make sense if you buy cheap concrete paving stones and then simply paint them in the desired color. The glazes are also wonderful for applying patterns to the paving stones.
Instructions for painting paving stones
➤ Step 1:
The color can only adhere optimally to clean stones. Therefore, you must first thoroughly clean the concrete paving stones. The best way to do this is with a pressure washer. For lichens and mosses, you have to use tools and remove the weeds by hand. Reading tip: Clean paving stones - step by step instructions
After cleaning, you have to let the pavement dry completely.
➤ Step 2:
You should only paint the stones in dry weather and temperatures of at least five degrees. To do this, take a short pile roll or a brush to hand and apply the glaze, which has been thoroughly stirred, to the dry stones. You can also paint the joints.
When fresh, the paint can have a completely different color than desired. The actual color only shows up when the paint is completely dry.
➤ Step 3:
Usually you have to wait about an hour, then the concrete blocks can be walked on again. If the paint does not optimally cover with one layer, you can apply a second coat after the end of the drying period or only touch up individual areas. Then let it dry for another hour.
